who we are

We Are Nimble and Bold

The Floriescence Institute is a micro non-profit, small in size yet large in heart and broad in mission.  We are an independent, non-partisan organization seeking wide participation from a variety of voices in civil conversation.  We are beholden to no one and we have no agenda other than to promote well-being in the widest sense of the word.

Founded in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) corporation in Virginia, we strive to empower individuals, families, communities and businesses to flourish in ways that are just, beautiful and comport more closely with the economy of the natural world.  In so doing, the Floriescence Institute helps citizens, businesses, nonprofits, secular and religious organizations, and governments promote social, environmental, and economic well-being in a manner that does not unduly constrain future generations with adverse consequences that arise from our actions today.

Toward this end, Floriescence promotes and encourages relationships and conditions that allow us to participate in a richly elaborated life with strong ties to community, place, culture and the natural world.  Finally, although the underlying fundamentals endure, the act of flourishing is not static but evolves over time as conditions change.  Floriescence recognizes the need for and promotes innovation, adaptability, and resiliency.

When understood and implemented, the Floriescence paradigm empowers our rational minds and fires our inventive imaginations to shape the design, scale, location and function of our economic and cultural activities in ways that are resilient, vibrant, beautiful, prudent, disciplined, appropriate for the local culture, and equitable not only to those living today, but to future generations, and to the environment in which we dwell.
